Frame Repairs

Frames also suffer from rot and in particular cills. Here you can see that the frame and cill has extensive rotten area’s exposed.

As with the sash we cut out the effected area and splice in new timber to a near invisible join and repair.

Sash & Casement Repairs

Repairing the windows rather than replacing them will be a significant cost saving, although there are times when it’s not possible to save the window or it’s not cost effective.

When it is apparent that the window is beyond repair we can have manufactured complete new windows & frames to match with your existing windows.

Specialist Epoxy Resin

When It’s difficult to splice in new timber or the area effected is only small or an irregular shape, we use or specialist epoxy resin to carryout the repair.

The resin in these situations is an excellent substitute and is approved by historic England.

 Our work

  • New hard wood cill

    The lower section of the frame that was rotten has had new timber spliced in, specialist epoxy resin has also been used to reinforce the joints.

    A new parting bead with an integral draught seal part of our draught proofing system has also been fitted.

  • Splicing in new timber

    All the repairs that we carry out we try to splice in new timber to create a strong seamless repair. We first cut out all rotten wood then treat the remaining timber with a two part chemical hardener.

    This stabilises the timber and stops any further moisture ingress. We then splice in new timber and reinforce the joints with specialist epoxy resin, this once cured it’s fine filled with two part filler to form a strong and near seamless join then sanded smooth ready for painting.

  • You may not need a replacement

    Usually this type of problem is caused by years of weather, moisture ingress and often the lack of maintenance. People believe that damage like this can only be fixed by a total replacement, however in many cases we are able to rescue windows and repair them on site.

    In some cases we will have to have certain parts manufactured such as bottom rails etc; but this we can usually get done quickly and have them match the existing profiles of the window as they do vary in style.

  • In a lot of cases it is more cost effective to replace the cill with a new a hardwood cill. Depending on the severity of the rot, it maybe possible to carryout a localised repair.

  • Firstly we cut out the rotten areas, treat the remaining timber with a 2 part wood hardener/preservative. Then splice in new timber where necessary inconjunction with specialist resin.

  • We always try to repair as the first option, but if this is uneconomical then the best option would be to replace what is required.
